Letter from Paul Haggis

June 7, 2011

To the Members of the Yorkville Exotic Car Show,

I'm very much looking forward to meeting you all on June 19 at
the Celebrate Bloor event. Before I get to shake your hands, I
wanted to send you a note of thanks for everything you're doing
to support Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ), the not‐for‐profit
organization that I founded in 2008.

Currently, we're focusing all of our time, energy and funds on
helping the people of Haiti lift themselves out of the poverty and
hopelessness that has been ruling their lives even before the
earthquake struck. We're making huge strides, but the need is
still so great. Haiti is already the poorest country in the Western
Hemisphere, and when the earthquake struck, an already dire
situation was made even worse: 230,000 were killed in the
earthquake, 300,000 were injured and 500,000 children were
deemed extremely vulnerable.

That's the bad news; here's the good:

• In October 2010, APJ built and opened Haiti's first free
secondary school, The Academy for Peace and Justice. Already,
400 grade seven students have been enrolled, and in the coming
years, approximately 3,000 students per year from grades 7‐
13 will receive education in music, art, film, computers, and
vocational training in agriculture, accounting and medical
support.
• In 2010, APJ provided the screening facilities for the St
Philomene Rehydration Center, a Cholera Treatment
Center run by the St Luke Foundation for Haiti. Over 5000
patients have been treated at the Center – 50% of whom would
have died without care.
• APJ has aided the St Luke Medical Center, run by the St Luke
Foundation for Haiti, provide over 500 free operations and treat
thousands of patients for maladies ranging from severe
dehydration to gunshot wounds..
• APJ worked with the World Food Program in Haiti to feed
22,000 people every day and distribute nearly 400 tons of food.
• APJ built Sun City Picture House in the slums, the first movie
theatre built after the disaster.

APJ is on the ground every day in Haiti working with the St Luc
Foundation to ensure that your generous donations go exactly
where they're needed. Every penny of the funds raised through
your Exotic Car show—and all of our funding always—directly
supports grassroots projects that are saving lives now and are,
literally, building a better future for the people of this struggling
nation.

I want to thank you again for everything you are doing to
support the work of Artists for Peace and Justice. Your
donations through the Yorkville Exotic Car Show will make such
a huge difference in Haiti—that's a guarantee. There is no red
tape to slow us down, no administration costs to be covered—
every penny is saving a life and filling another with hope and
possibility.

I'll see you very soon in Toronto. I look forward to meeting all of
you.

Sincerely,

Paul Haggis
